The background to Taba Time...

I first encountered Dean Taba's music when I came across a couple of his CDs during a visit to the US and was instantly knocked out by the quality of his compositions - fresh, hip, entertaining and accessible.

Dean studied at Boston's renowned Berklee College of Music before locating to LA where he became one of the city's most in-demand and respected bassists and a much sought-after musical educator. He recently moved back to his native Hawaii where I contacted him to ask how he would feel about me putting a group together to play some of his compositions in the UK. He immediately gave the project his blessings and best wishes.

The result is Taba Time, a quartet formed specifically to play the unique compositions of Dean Taba, who keeps in touch regularly to find out how the band is developing. He has also sent some new tunes for the quartet which we hope to record later this year.
